When the New Oak Partnership set its sites on finding the perfect spokesperson for the group’s national Choose Oak Campaign, they wanted to make sure whomever they selected exemplified the ideas and values of the New Oak.
Fortunately, the New Oak Partnership had to look no further than the cast of one of America’s most popular television shows to find the perfect fit. Renowned interior designer Laurie Smith was chosen as the public voice of the Choose Oak Campaign because of her simple, yet innovative design style and her ‘green’ attitude.
Smith is best known for her appearances on the TLC show “Trading Spaces.” Smith has appeared on the hit television series since its inception in 2000. She also recently wrote a design book, Discovering Home: Find Your Personal Style, in which she shares her approaches to and advice for home design and renovation. In the book, Smith highlights and recommends several pieces of furniture, including a beautiful table made of Oak. Oak is recommended for many uses within the home - cabinetry, floors, millwork, furniture, and more. Oak is versatile; can be easily stained or painted to suit a design; and refinishes easily to adapt to changes in design.
In December, Smith traveled to Forest, Virginia to begin work on the Choose Oak campaign. While in Forest, Smith filmed several public service announcements, voiced radio ads and took part in a photo shoot – all of which will be used in this nation-wide campaign. In addition, Smith will appear on a prominent network morning news program during the first quarter of 2008 to further promote the uses, sustainability and advantages of choosing Oak!
Radio and television spots featuring Laurie will begin airing nationally very soon, so keep your eyes and your ears peeled for Laurie as she helps us spread the word about The New Oak! For additional information, log on to www.ChooseOak.com.

As the New Oak Partnership rolls out its Choose Oak Campaign, the group decided to take on a new look to coincide with its new, nationwide push to promote the benefits of Oak.
The Partnership worked closely with Prototype Advertising, a Forest, Virginia-based company to develop the New Oak brand, logos, website and new tag “Quality doesn’t fall from the tree.”
The New Oak’s new look and Choose Oak campaign are meant to raise industry and consumer awareness about the sustainability and design benefits of Oak. The New Oak Partnership targets the design, architecture and construction communities, including furniture, kitchen, bath and interior design professionals, with a program encouraging a fresh look at Oak. The New Oak is committed to educating manufacturers and the public about the features and benefits of Oak, including its environmental sustainability and ‘green’ attributes.
The website, www.TheNewOak.com, allows both designers and homeowners to submit their latest Oak projects to share with others who are thinking of using Oak on their next project, or that have already used Oak in the past, know of its benefits and also want to share their experience with others. The site is also available in Spanish to make the New Oak’s cause easily assessable to an even wider range of customers.
TheNewOak.com is also home to the New Oak Student Design Contest, which was created to showcase the beauty and functionality of American red and white Oak designs in furniture. The competition affords design students the opportunity to use solid Oak in a major national project and have their work promoted internationally. |
Here’s where you can help plant a seed! The New Oak Partnership has a passion about Oak furniture, cabinetry, flooring and millwork – the functionality, the beauty and of course the sustainability makes Oak a viable option for your next project or creation.
The New Oak Partnership is dedicated to raising the awareness of Oak furniture. If you share in our passion, express your ideas with others! You can touch on almost any topic – from design ideas to architecture and, of course, going ‘green’ – the environmental benefits Oak. To start spreading the news today, log on to www.ChooseOak.com or any of these other design and enviro-aware websites and tell people to Choose Oak!
